I human-optimize the world, one experience at a time.
I’m Mary Fran, an award-winning accessibility expert and experience design leader based in Chicago (arguably the best city in the world). For over 15 years, I’ve been designing inclusive digital experiences for brands you’ve definitely heard of—and probably used.
My sweet spot? Leading teams through complex design challenges—from e-commerce platforms to design systems to native apps—while ensuring accessibility is baked in from the start, not bolted on at the end.

How I Think About Design
Every interaction is an opportunity for a purposeful experience. I don’t just design screens—I think in systems and connected webs. Whether I’m building an accessibility strategy, solving e-commerce problems, or designing hybrid digital-physical experiences, I’m always looking for how the pieces connect.
My work is fueled by insatiable curiosity about human behavior. I dig deep, ask “why?” a lot, and lead teams through the design innovation cycle with equal parts rigor and creativity.

Why accessibility matters to me
A 2008 car accident taught me what it’s like to navigate a world that wasn’t designed for me. And the lasting nerve disorder has continued to challenge my interaction with the physical world. While I can’t build better buildings, I can improve every digital experience I touch. It’s why accessibility isn’t an afterthought in my work—it’s personal.
Let’s Work Together
I’m available for contract work and full-time roles. Whether you need someone to lead your accessibility transformation, audit your digital products, or build human-centered experiences from the ground up, let’s talk.
