Building a website is not for a hobbyist.
At my “day job” I come across a lot of websites and have to work with code created by all sorts of people. Designers who still use GoLive (oi!), Programmers who dabble in HTML for fun (they might be worse) but the worst code to deal with is the code created by someone who took a class in web design 10 years ago and still thinks they know what they are doing. I don’t claim to be an expert (ok, well, sort of, but this whole IE8 thing still has me a little confused), but I do know what my limits are. I cannot build you a robust e-commerce site from scratch. I’ll leave that to the super-experts, or I’ll call my dad.
I have had training (some better than others) and I take time everyday to make sure that I have learned something new. I follow several web design and development blogs. I read web design books and magazines. And I practice. Everyday.
The web is an ever changing medium and people who refuse to embrace the change and the people who ignore that there has been any sort of changes need a quick bop on the head. (Perhaps with those Sock’em boppers from my childhood).
So please, if you need to have a website created, do not create it your self unless you are a trained professional or are willing to devote the enough time to do it right, or you’re just going to end up hiring me anyways.
So, if any of the following seem shocking to you: Tables are not meant to hold layout elements. All caps in your code is so 1999. And tags that aren’t nested never were correct, please let me build your site for you.
